Responsibilities:

As an anesthesiologist working with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need.

Our anesthesiologists: 

  • prepare and carry out anesthesia
  • coordinate operating room staff
  • supervise and train staff
  • prepare anesthetic equipment 

Anesthesiologists manage the pre- and post-operative follow-up of patients. You will also participate in collecting and analyzing data, as well as reporting. 

Essential requirements:

  • full and current registration
  • no post residency experience required but preferred
  • experience in pediatric, obstetric and trauma anesthesia
  • extensive experience in spinal anesthesia and dissociative anesthesia (e.g. Ketamine)
  • ability to work under basic conditions, without laboratory or X-rays and with minimal monitoring, life-support or ventilation equipment
  • available to work one to six months
  • experience supervising and training others
  • strong command of English

Desirable criteria:

  • relevant travel or work experience in a developing country or remote parts of Canada
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel)
  • knowledge of other languages, especially French and Arabic
