Spend a day with on board Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)'s search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea, where our medical teams are responding to migrant vessels in distress and providing humanitarian care to people risking their lives on the dangerous journey from North Africa to Europe. Already, close to 1,800 people have died on the Mediterranean this year alone.
Use the social media hashtag #MSFSea to follow our teams throughout the day as they share their experiences on the front lines of the Mediterranean migration crisis.
There will be continuous #MSFSea updates on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and YouTube from Canadian physician Dr. Simon Bryant and his colleagues who have been working on board the MY Phoenix, the Mediterranean search-and-rescue ship MSF is using in partnership with the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS).
Follow #MSFSea to hear what MSF's rescue teams have experienced while at sea, and learn the details of a typical day on the Phoenix. Dr. Bryant and his colleagues will explain what it's like to respond to vessels in distress and treat patients in need. You can also meet some of the people who have been driven by desperation to risk the dangerous Mediterranean crossing, and hear some of their stories and their hopes for a better future.
