Rohingya: How should Canada respond to a forgotten humanitarian crisis?

Join us on March 21 to learn more about this crisis and how you can support MSF in our advocacy

A staff meeting at the MSF healthcare centre in Jamtoli camp for Rohingya refugees, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. On average, more than 400 patients seek treatment at this facility every day. Here, MSF provides emergency room and outpatient care, maternity, mental health and health promotion services. A crucial component of MSF’s medical activities is community outreach, which includes supporting pregnant women through prenatal and postnatal care, encouraging births in the facility, and ensuring patients continue to seek medication and treatment in our facilities. Patients who require hospitalisation are referred to MSF hospitals in Cox’s Bazar. MSF remains one of the main organisations providing inpatient services for paediatric, neonatal and adult patients. However, there is a need for increased provision of good quality 24-hour surgical capacity, comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care, paediatric services and mental healthcare. Many Rohingya lived through traumatic experiences while fleeing the violence in Myanmar. This, together an uncertain future and a lack of employment opportunities can affect their well-being. MSF is one of the few organisations providing comprehensive mental healthcare to the Rohingya and local Bangladeshi communities through psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and community mental health educators.
