How to leave a legacy to MSF
Leaving a gift in your will to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is simple. All you need to do is name MSF as a beneficiary.
Benefits:
- Can provide tax benefits that will be passed on to your heirs
- Can be claimed against 100 per cent of your net income on your final two lifetime tax returns
- Can offset taxes, ensuring that gifts to loved ones go further.
Your bequest can be:
- Residual: a percentage of the remainder of your estate after all of your provisions for your family and loved ones have been. Example of a Residual Gift:
“I give to Doctors Without Borders Canada/Médecins Sans Frontières Canada, currently located at 551 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M5V 0N8, _ % of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
- Specific: a fixed amount or percentage of cash Example of a Gift of Money for General Purposes: “I give to Doctors Without Borders Canada/Médecins Sans Frontières Canada, currently located at 551 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M5V 0N8, the sum of $___________ to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.”
- An asset such as:
- A life insurance policy
- Gifts of securities
- Property
- An investment account; naming MSF the beneficiary of a RRSP / RRIF / TFSA
