MSF's social worker, Sandra, welcomes a patient at Notre-Dame de Caramel Reference Health Center in Goma, North Kivu. Many people living with HIV in Goma face socio-economic difficulties that prevent them from properly following their treatment despite the free medical care provided by MSF. Stigmatisation, social exclusion and poverty are all realities that can push some patients to stop taking their treatment. These challenges can also be acute for survivors of sexual violence, street children and sex workers, who are often particularly vulnerable and marginalised in DRC.
Private, individual donations made by people like you make up over 90 per cent of the money we raise. This style of fundraising means Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) acts independently – not reliant on government or institutional funding – and our teams can respond quickly to reach people most in need of medical care.
There are many ways you can give, other than a single or monthly donation. Whether it’s creating your own fundraising event, being sponsored to take part in your favourite activity, donating in your will or in honour of someone else, there are countless ways to help – on your own or by engaging your friends, family and community. You choose and control the type, scale and complexity of your event, in line with your skills, interests and what is do-able for you. Unrestricted donations enable MSF to carry out our programs around the world. If we cannot honor a specific request, we will reallocate your donation to where the needs are greatest.

“As an MSF doctor living and working in a country undergoing a humanitarian crisis – and as someone who has myself been a patient and experienced the consequences of the healthcare systems collapse first -hand – seeing how MSF is helping to strengthen the health system and provides the resources to treat patients is incredible.”

“Thank you so much for your generosity, which I know is particularly appreciated by everyone in my team. In a time when government humanitarian funding is declining and the needs of communities in vulnerable circumstances are growing, your support is more vital than ever. You are helping us to make a real difference. Without you, this work would not be possible.”
Zahra Lergris MSF mental health activity manager, Gaza
“Many thanks for your donations big and small…. From essential medications to treat infections, heart and lung medications to keep people on their feet, insulin so young diabetics can reach adulthood, to vital equipment for operating theatres and salaries to support our staff and their families who themselves are often refugees or living through war and conflict, your money goes a really long way.”
In the face of escalating humanitarian needs and widening funding gaps, we need your support now more than ever. Your compassionate support will help our teams adapt and respond quickly to deliver assistance to millions of people caught in the world’s most pressing emergencies.

Nizeyimana Seleman, MSF water and sanitation manager in the Jamtoli camp for Rohingya refugees, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
MSF water and sanitation teams ensure that communities living near the Jamtoli and Hakimpara health facilities have adequate access to chlorinated water and sanitation facilities. To protect the Rohingya refugees from outbreaks of water-borne disease, MSF teams also construct water and sanitation infrastructure like handwashing points, bathing, and toilet facilities. In addition, Seleman and his team ensure proper disposal of organic and medical waste from MSF’s healthcare centres in Jamtoli and Hakimpara.
Flooding and stagnant water during the rainy season poses a challenge for MSF teams. In order to safeguard the health of Rohingya and local communities, our water and sanitation teams are always on alert for any outbreaks such as acute watery diarrhoea, by ensuring sanitation facilities in the camps and in our health centres remain functional, with adequate hygiene.
