MSF’s submission to SRSR on Support for the Commercialization of Intellectual Property

This spring, Canada’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Research (SRSR) is holding meetings on Support for the Commercialization of Intellectual Property. MSF is concerned that this discussion overemphasizes the monetization of intellectual property (IP) such as patents while overlooking the importance of societal access to new innovations. This is particularly true for drugs, vaccines and other medical technologies. In many places where MSF operates, Intellectual Property, and high prices made possible by the exclusivity of IP, make important medical tools inaccessible or unaffordable.
